The Computer Engineering Department was first established in 1999 jointly with the statistics department in the Faculty of Science under the name "department of statistics and computer" for the undergraduate students with major of software. Later on, in 2004 the department joined the Faculty of Engineering of Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz (SCU) as one of its independent departments and since that it is one of the most active groups, advancing borders of teaching and research fields and educating many computer engineers with different expertise in several levels and fields as:

undergraduate level: major in software engineering (minor in either computer networks or artificial intelligence)

graduate level (M.Sc.): major in Artificial Intelligence (since 2009)

graduate level (M.Sc.): major in System Architectures (since 2018)

graduate level (M.Sc.): major in Artificial Intelligence (since 2018, international students)

This department has several technical laboratories for practical courses in addition to a computer site as the following:

Laboratory 1 (graduate students' class)

Laboratory 2 (Logical circuits, Computer architecture, Microprocessors and Computer networks)

Laboratory 3 (Database systems, Operating systems, Software engineering and computer workshop)

Laboratory 4 (graduate students' office)

High performance computing center (provides professional services for internal and external requests)

Artificial intelligence lab (GPU equipment)
