Protection and Relay Lab
Objectives:
· Getting familiar with the electromechanical, static, digital relays and Getting familiar with relays set and test procedures.
· Getting familiar with the analog and digital devices for testing relays and how to work with them
· Investigation of network protection, synchronous generator, power plant and transformer
· Performing the following tests to familiarize yourself with protection and relays:
o Testing the pickup and drop-off current and operation time of the electromechanical overcurrent relay using an analog test device
o Setting the digital overcurrent relay and testing it using a digital test device
o Testing and determining the operation area of the electromechanical direction finder relay using an analog test device
o Setting the digital directional overcurrent relay and testing and determining the pickup current and angle and the operation area and time of operation of the relay using a digital test device
o Testing and determining the operation area and time of the electromechanical distance relay using an analog test device
o Setting the digital distance and testing the time and limits of the relay operation using a digital test device
o Performance testing of the transmission network protection system for different faults in the network using two training sets of network protection with electromechanical and digital relays
o Testing the overcurrent and overvoltage protection of a laboratory synchronous generator
o Testing the performance of the power plant protection system for various faults in it using two educational sets of power plant protection with electromechanical and digital relays
o Examining the performance of a differential protection relay fir a laboratory three-phase transformer
· Analyzing and recording practical results and comparing them with theory
