The heat transfer laboratory of mechanical engineering department offers a variety of experiments for undergraduate students. What follows is a brief description of each available experiment.
 

Thermal Conductivity 

 

Objective:

Introduction to the heat transfer by conduction and determination of the thermal conductivity of solids

 

 


Forced Convection Heat Transfer in Pipes


Objective:

Investigating the forced convection heat transfer in pipes and finding the effect of air velocity on the convective heat transfer coefficient

 

Free Convection Heat Transfer Over a Flat Plate

Objective:

Introducing the process of the free convection heat transfer over a vertical flat plate and investigating the effect of heat transfer rate on the convective heat transfer coefficient

 

 

Coaxial Heat Exchanger 

Objective:

Introduction to the operation of coaxial heat exchanger and comparison of parallel and counter flow heat exchanger

 

Cooling Tower

Objective:

Investigating the operation of a cooling tower and finding the effect of inlet air flow on the water temperature at different locations of cooling tower

 

 

Radiation 

 

Objective:

Investigating the reduction of light passing through a non-transparent object by changing the density
