Laboratory Technical Staff: Eng. Parvaneh Afshari

Ext. No: 5718

The strength of Materials laboratory of mechanical engineering department offers a variety of experiments for undergraduate and graduate students. What follows is a brief description of each available experiment.

Bend Testing Machine

Objectives:

  • Investigation of the relationship between load, span, dimensions and deflection of a beam
  • Ascertain the coefficient of elasticity for steel, brass, aluminum and wood

Twist Testing Machine

Objectives:

  • Determination of the shear modulus of steel, brass, and aluminum
  • Investigation of the relationship between the torsional moment, clamping length and torsional angle of a shaft

Curved Beams Testing Machine

Objective:

  • Determination of horizontal and vertical deflections of curved beams

Impact Test

Objective:

  • Determination of the impact strength characteristics of different materials

Tensile Test

Objectives:

  • Tensile tests
  • Recording of stress-strain diagrams
  • Evaluation of Young's modulus
  • Determination of Brinell hardness

Combined Bending Test

Objective:

  • Determination of deflection and its direction

Fatigue Test

Objective:

  • Testing the fatigue strength of a material subjected to changes in bending stress

Strain Gauge Bridge Test

Objective:

  • Studying the deflection and load variations in twist and bend testing machine
