Head of the Laboratory: Dr. Kh. Naderan Tahan Ext. No: 5667 Photoelastic stress analysis is an experimental method for determination of stress distribution especially when it is hard to obtain an accurate solution from mathematical methods. Photoelasticity experiment is widely used for evaluating stress concentration in irregular geometries. The physical theory behind the photoelasticity includes the double refraction of polarized light passing through translucent material under stress. In the following photos, the polariscope device, an instrument for studying the interactions of polarized light with translucent specimens, and stress distribution in some specimens under loading are shown. | |
